Wondering what the max pressure that could be seen for or a standard Merc belt driven pump for open cooled system, and measured at the block? Will be installing a mechanical gauge in the block for next season and looking at VDO 30 or 40 PSI gauge.

Anyone have one installed and know what could be seen?

From what I recall the typical high end range that usually seemed to be seen was right around 17 - 20 psi and maybe reach 25 max on some. That was the impeller side from the power steering cooler.....< Plus come to think of the max side readings; 'That may have been the systems where the sensor was basically mounted to the impeller housings like the early 496's did....Item # 10, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s...31815/6708/210

Maybe if at all possible try to pick a more accurate gauge that gives/shows good teen numbers vs higher numbers but still shows some high numbers of around 40 - 50 psi per se.

Thanks, I can get a very accurate gauge, but they don't make them to fit in the helm (2 1/6). Would like to use the one to give me the widest scale but would hate to put in lets say a 60 and the highest I ever see is 15. Just want to be able to keep an eye on how well my impeller is doing

Appears the norm is the 40

This is the VDO but would really like if they made one with a red pointer
