Hey all, I've got a Mid-80's Merc Classic 50, 45 horse on my fishing boat. Its always seemed a little cold blooded since I bought it, but this summer it seems to be getting worse. To the point that on some days, you have to let it runny at part throttle for 10 minutes before it'll run smoothly. Seems to miss otherwise. Once you get it nice and warmed up, she runs great. let it cool down while you're fishing and she'll act up again, but not as bad. Applying the choke hurts rather than helps. any ideas? Is it safe to run a bottle of Seafoam through this motor? Possibly that carbs are getting gummed up a little. The boat doesn't sit idle for more than a week without being used and over the winter, we siphon all the gas out and run the engine dry before we store it.

Thanks all!!

You need to try to richen the idle mix 1/8 to 1/4 turn on both carbs that should take care of the problem

Thanks for the tip Laddies. I'm gonna try replacing the spark plugs first, if that doesn't do anything, I'll try tweaking the air/fuel mixture.

Thanks!
