Personally, I wouldn't use that sticky nasty stuff Merc puts out on anything. One place I worked at long ago used it and it seemed like it caused more corrosion than it stopped. You spray the stuff on metal parts inside the engine compartment to keep them from corroding.
There are many different kinds that protect metal. Pick one you like and go for it.
I used the Volvo brand (Was working for a Volvo dealership) corrosion guard, which is similar to CRC's Bio-shield or something like that, just a different color. Dried to a dry, waxy, non sticky or oily finish and really stopped corrosion on salt water boats.
