merc engine oil trouble

1996 merc, 225 hp, carb. oil warning light and buzzer go off. oil is not being tranferred from the normal oil tank, it is being drawn from the emergency oil tank on engine only, checked caps and lines for leak and they seem to be OK. Why would oil not be drawn from the normal tank??

You probably have already eliminated this, but if you run low on oil and the buzzer goes off, it will comtinue to do so even after you fill your 3 gallon tank if you don't top off your reserve tank. If the buzzer lets off 4 short blasts every 2 minutes, then all you need to do is top off the reserve tank. It only needs to be a fraction of a pint low for the alarm to sound.
