I went through 3 fuel pumps last year and decided to try to convert it to electric. I know its not coast guard aproved, but I heard there is a way to hook the power up to the oil pump so that it shuts off when the engine dies. Has anyone done this? Anyone know of a legal way to convert it over?

Is it possible you got another problem that acts like a faulty fuel pump? Maybe something intermittent? Like Bob says, thats a lotta pumps!

The image below is how Mercruiser wires in the fuel pumps.
To get the voltage to the pump, they come off the starter with one wire that engergizes the pump while the starter is cranking the engine, then when oil pressure builds it closes a Normally open oil pressure switch (#5 in the picture) which keeps power to the pump with the engine running. Then if you loose oil pressure or the engine dies and the pressure drops the Normally open switch goes open and the power to the pump is stopped.
The pump is item #6 in the picture.
