Merc Gearcase interchange?

I threw a rod on my '77 Merc 1500 (inline six, longshaft), with a 4-1/4" gearcase. I replaced it with a '93 Merc 135V6 (longshaft) with A 4-3/4" gearcase. The inline's gearcase is still good, will it fit the new motor? I have props for both size gearcases, and the gear ratio is the same, so that is not an issue.

To make it work you will have to remove the front stud on gearcase and you have to slightly enlongate rear holes above prop.

Re: Merc Gearcase interchange?

Thanks for the info. Since the '93 V6 has the hole for the front stud of the gearcase, I am assuming that the hole is in the wrong place. Is that the issue?

Yep and 2 rear studs. also forgot you have to remove any line up pins in gearcase or midsection.
