I removed my lower unit today to get a look at my impeller and sure enough it was pretty gone...

Anyhow... I now need a water pump kit (gaskets, cover, insert etc are pretty shot) to get this back up and going. I don't know where to find one or the part number(s) I need. It is a Mercury 850 4cyl (1975?) S/N 4296848

Thanks,

Chris :)

Look at this chart. This is what Hooty was talking about! Take the 18-number to NAPA and you can get the parts needed.

web page

Re: Merc Outboard Water Pump Help

Thanks for the replies...

I only find a listing for the Impeller, Impeller Plate and Impeller Repair Kit listed on that chart for my serial number range...

When I type those numbers in at mercurymarine.com they come up as no longer available.

Am I out of luck ?? Will I have a useless outboard because I can't get parts anymore ???

HELP !!!

Thanks,

Go to your NAPA store and tell them you need a
18-3214 Impeller Repair Kit. That's the water pump kit for your engine. Sorry, I don't have the price.

c/6

Hooty

Re: Merc Outboard Water Pump Help

I recommend going to any Mercury Parts Store. I replaced the water pump on my old motor twice. It was a 1974 model Mercury. It cost around $30 -$35 for a replacement kit if I remember correctly. This included the impellor and gaskets. I'm sure they could get a cover also if one wasn't in stock. The parts are available for the older models, just not listed on website.

Good Luck,

Scobertt

You can get the Sierra Kit at any West Marine store if there is one nearby. Just take the old impeller and get the "kit" that looks the same. It will have a bunch of gaskets and orings left over as it contains enough parts to do various motor models.
