If anyone has a Merc pinion tool #91-12349A2 that they would send a drawing to w/ dimensions, I would gladly pay a price for. I'm retired and it
cost $533 plus shipping.
Thanks

Re: Merc pinion tool

Here is some info that may help: If you have the 2.5 pinion tool (91-74776) you can use it just follow below:
The outer ring that locates in the case is the same size. You can use the 2.5 tool in the 3.0 housing, but you have to add 1/2 the diameter difference to the .025 pinion depth setting.

91-74776 = 2.575 center dia. (2.5 tool)

91-56048 = 2.655 center dia. (3.0 tool)

subtract 2.575 from 2.655 you get .080, then divide that by 2 because you are only measuring from one side and you get .040. add that to the .025 pinion height given by Mercury and you have .065. That is the measurement you would use when using the 91-74776 in a 3 liter housing.

Re: Merc pinion tool

If you are only replacing bearings, gears or shafts, just keep track of the exact placement of the shims while disassembly and make sure to replace them in the same position and you won't need the shimming tools as the shims only match the housing to the machined parts so if the housing is not replaced the shimming will be correct.

oil leak

oil leak

Thanks for the info. Now something else. Thats the way it seems for me.
I was warming the engine up on water muffs and noticed oil coming out of a little weep hole on both sides of the lower unit just in front of the back bolt
that you take out to drop the foot. Never done it before. Is the seal on the drive shaft bad? Its a 1999 225hp EFI Merc.
