(part clarification needed)
Just replaced coolant reservoir gasket (still got a leak there at high speeds), used part #27-18272 for which parts catalog shows as the only gasket ( engine does have alum. manifold). Just looked at service manual (sku#90-44553) under coolant assembly / disassembly, manual shows 3 parts, a-gasket b-stainless steel plate c-27-97542 separator gasket. Parts catalog does not show stainless plate, do I need this plate? Engine Info 1986 mercruiser MCM190, eng.ser.no. 6925425, stern drive s no. a532009 224cid 190hp 4 cyl freshwater cooled What gasket sealant is recommended for gasket?

Im no rocket scientist but if you asked me, if you got the kit that shows only one gasket you do not need the plate. Did you use a torque wrench and gradually reach your spec in a circular pattern? Or did you just crank the b++ch down at will? The latter will leak.

bt part 27-97542 in parts catalog shows for cast iron manifold, but it does have only one slot. Think it'll do for the aluminum? The service manual does not indicate alum or cast

areef - torque sequenced first gasket. 30 ftlbs then re torqued after warm up 31ftlbs scared to torque any more on aluminum manifold. Which ever gasket I go with next try, I will try sanding surfaces straight and smooth and clean with wood block / 80 grit. nola - I will leave sealant off.
