I am in the process of replacing the stator and switch box on my 3 cylinder Mercury sport jet(1994 S/N oe043715). I just pulled the flywheel and found that all the magnets are loose, and one is even broken. Many of the magnets in the flywheel stayed attached to the stator when I pulled the flywheel off,,, Is there any repair for this??? Is the fix replacing the flywheel? Any input you have is appreciated. Thanks, Tom

I've suggested this before, but haven't got feed back.I'm pretty sure Merc says replace the flywheel. $$$$$$.I know OMC,now BRP has an epoxy for this problem. If the magnets are not too badly broken,it works.I've done it.
DHP

You can epoxy them... but that broken magnet may cause an extra pole pulse as it rotates.

the broken magnet will cause an extra pole and no amount of epoxy can fix that.
suck it up and locate another flywheel.

fix it right the first time can save yourself more in the long run.
