I have a 1997 Bayliner Jazz with the 120 HP Mercury Sportjet. First let me say the engine runs fine and is amost new. It is, however, somewhat underpowered for two adults pulling a big teenager skiing. I have had several other boats with V8 inboard / outboards and wouldnt trade my little Jazz for any of them. I have searched for information on increasing the output of the 120 and cant find anything of a bolt on nature. I wish now I had opted for the 175 HP version of the Jazz when I bought mine. Sine there was a 175 HP Jazz offered the same year wouldnt it be a bolt in replacement.Did they use a different jet? The only difference I have been able to find is the 175 versions had a larger oil resevoir.
I would appreciate it. I should be able to buy the complete motor and jet from the factory and simply bolt it all in right? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Re: Merc Sportjet 120 swapout for 175

It woulld not be a direct swap as the 175 is a Merc based V6 and the 120 is a Force L 4.As for ease of conversion, why not just call Bayliner and ask.Merc consumer line can also help you.
