merc stern tilt not functioning at all

Hey all,

Ive got a 1982 cobalt with a merc 260 and model 1 drive. I recently pulled the engine and rebuilt it. put it back in and it runs amaaaazing. however, cant get the freakin stern to work now. I'm no stranger to anything on the boat anymore since ive dang near worked on every freakin part. That said. i check all the wiring i could and can't find anything thats not connected or anything. the regular trim up down is not working nor the trailer button. i think its the ii-tr system. my question then would be, are there solenoids or fuses somewhere that i am just not finding that would be causing no power to get to the hydro pump? im really frustrated about this one cuz i just got the engine back in and was bout to head to the lake to break it in and the trim wouldnt go up! dangit!

Probably got corroded or rusted brushes in the motor. Tap is lightly with a SMALL hammer (near the top) and see if it work at all.

well I can check that however two day prior to using it again it had worked. I rebuilt the engine and had it back in and running in two days. full rebuild from new rings and rod bearings through everything else. So I would tend to lead towards no the issue for the pump. I feel like perhaps something got shorted somehow but I just dont know what shorts out on those

You may have shorted a wire while reconnecting everything and popped a breaker or blew a fuse. I'm trying to remember the connections from my 1980 Mercruiser. If I remember correctly, there is an in-line fuse holder and fuse down near the pump itself. Check that. It is also possible that you forgot to reconnect the cables from the pump when you re-installed the engine. Check for a disconnected ground cable or a disconnected power cable at the battery. Turns out that on my particular pump system there is a little circuit breaker that had popped. I pushed that little button in and vwala. tilt works again. they should label stuff!!!!
