Hello everyone,
I posted this problem about 4 weeks ago and I'm still stuck on dry land. I purchased an old early 70's 100hp Mercury outboard and had recently changed out the throttle cable and water pump.
When put back together I tested to make sure that it would go into reverse and forward. Shifts just fine into forward from the control box. When tested in reverse it locks and fails to go back to neutral. Could this be due to dropping the lower unit or improper installation of the cable...or both???
I'm new to working on outboards and tried to following the instructions from the manual the best I could. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
