Hello everyone, a newbie here.
I have a few questions before I button up my rebuild. This is my first one so forgive me if they seem simple. The motor is a ?89 V6 135hp. I?ve had the block bored .30 over and have new pistons, new bearings. Reusing the crank and rods. My questions are;
Following the manual I marked each rod with the cylinder # but did not pay attention to the orientation of them. So they could be in 90 degrees from the way they where originally. This was not addressed in either of the manuals I have. Does this matter?
I soaked the rod bearing in 2 cycle oil instead of using the Merc. assembly lube. Any problem?
The oil seals (orings) on the both the end caps seem to ride up out of the groove but seem to fit into a little chamfered edge in the block. Is this normal?
I seem to have damaged the oil seal (?) not sure what to call it on the very end of the crank on the drive end. Must have been when I pressed off the bearing. It?s a little metal cap like ring on the very end. Looking at where it mates with the middle unit it doesn?t look like it mates up to anything. It?s not horribly mangled but just a little tweaked. Will this matter? I haven't found a replacement.
One manual said for the 135 -150hp to oil the rod bolts. The other said to use locktight. Which is right for the size and model? I?m using new ones.
Thanks much for the help. Ted
