My motor has never pissed out of the pisser - fitted new stats today hoping to have fixed it. It's the same, ran it for 5 mins on the hose (see attached video) but all I'm getting smoke from the pisser and the odd dribble and blue smoke. Motor is plenty warm to touch (not hot) and doesn't overheat when run. Water nice and warm from prop. New impellar a few months back. Compression all good and equal at 120.

Any ideas?

Yes .....that is not the tell tale tube, look at this video that was posted "similar" on the same page (I do not recommend that ANYONE rev up a muffed motor ....it is dangerous to the motor) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mdknal4Ak3g&feature=related

Yes .....that is not the tell tale tube

Yes it is, I have unplugged it from the exit nipple on the case..

Revving this motor using the fast idle leaver to a max of 2.5k is not dangerous..

Back on topic..

looks like you have pressure from the engine getting into your water jacket..maybe a bad head gasket or crack in block somewhere...have you done a compression/leak down test on each cylinder???

agree with Sparkie... time for deeper analysis.

Man thats a oldie V-6 that has the design 1 water flow. Cannot tell to good from video but does the hose of poppet valve feed back to starboard t-stat housing or has someone tied it into top of block? If someone tried to plumb it like the newer engines that hose in video will become the adapter feed and splice in of the t-stats, then water overboard(pisser) will be off t-stat housings.

The motor is running good and cooling well. That hose must be hooked into the exhaust somewhere, maybe a pyro fitting or something. It should be coming from the crossover hose off the t-stat housings.

Even then, they don't stream well until the engine is warmed up and the t-stats are open.

hope it helps

Hi Faz, yes the hose of poppet valve feeds back to starboard t-stat housing which then 'T's across to the port stat.

Cheers

The pisser hose is tapped into the block on the port side below the powerhead (looks OEM) above where it's fitted is the base gasket (I reckon this may be leaking exhaust gas into the pisser cavity here where it comes across from the poppet valve side) Compression is a solid 120 on all 6 pots so not thinking head gasket.. Due you think I should just 'T' in between the two stats and run that overboard on a narrow bore pipe as the pisser then?

Thoughts?

Thanks

Jim

That is correct for that model/year. Check the poppet valve to see if it has debris on line to t-stat housing. If it is open the base gasket or adapter gasket is blown which will require removal of powerhead.

Have a look at the attached picture - couple of questions on it.

I'm wondering now if this is really a major issue - if its cooling OK and just leaking exhaust gas from the 2 x square exhaust chambers shown on the picture into the pisser outlet no harms being done is it?

I could 'T' of the stat output with a fine bore hose and use that as the (in effect 2nd) tell tale and job done? - I wouldnt block off the first and would need to leave it venting overboard so as not to 'gas' the motor if it was left open in the case.

I've spent so much time and money on this motor in the last few months of owning it (carbs all rebuilt, impellar, stats, rectifier, control box) I can't justify pulling the power head as well can I - surely this is a major job?

Have you checked to see if you have water from t-stat housing to poppet?

The hose from the stats to the poppet was warm so I assumed so - perhaps I should pull the pipe off the poppet and run it up again?

The poppet valves dumps into that little triangle hole bottom center of your pic. The tell tale comes off the t-stat down tube that dumps into the exhaust plate and cools the exhuast at the idle relief port. If there's no water in the down tube from the t-stat then exhaust gas will come out the tell tale. Take the down tube off of the head at the t-stat and see if anything comes out of the t-stat. If not, clean the t-stat weep hole out. Check the down tube for blockage also.

Yes as it feeds water to adapter plate.

This is correct for later models, but this one has starboard t-stat housing feeding bypass on poppet valve. The tattle tale comes off adapter plate for this model. (see picture, item c) The early 150's, 175's had this as did the 225 but it used a idle restriction plate behind poppet.

Thanks everyone.

Steve - where is the T stat Weep hole (I assume next to the stats) but a picture or description of how to clean it would help.

Thanks

The vent or weep hole is on the tip of the t-stat ,its usually a notch or "v" on the small round exit cover.
