I need some help with my merc 3.9hp single. It runs good and all except that the waterpump is out and I don't know where it is. If I could get some help on this I would be very grateful. By the way the only numbers i could find was the seriel number which is 2443368. Thanks Cien

Re: Merc Waterpump

I'm sure you'll get much better responses. I did this for the first time a few days ago on a 1981 7.5HP.
I removed the complete bottom part. There are two nylock nuts. One on the leading edge, above the "fin" and another underneath, near the water intake grating.
I've read that you should make sure the gear selector is in reverse, and leave it there, so things mate up afterwards.
The whole bottom part drops down. The drive shaft passes through the centre of the water pump and drives it with a key. Removing two small nuts on studs at the top of the water pump body allows you to slide the top/lid up the shaft. In my case the impeller had no vanes on it!

You can get a repair kit or just the impeller. I went for the kit. It includes the whole pump body (and some parts I haven't figured out yet). That way you get all new seals and bearings. That's where I'm at now. See my post.

MiYotie

Cien, save yourself alot of grief, pain and heart ache. Get a shop manual. It'll pay for itself the first time you use it.
