Merc won't shut off--sometimes!!!!

I checked other posts, and my engine is acting a little different. Sometimes it shuts off immediately, which leads me to believe that the kill switch wires are all intact. Other times it will run for 5 to 10 seconds before I can finally choke it out. Any suggestions?

It could be a defective switch. What it does,is short to ground, a wire that goes to the switchbox. This will be black with a yellow stripe.Connect that post on the switchbox to ground,and it kills the ignition. If the key isn't doing it, it is bad,or the wire going to it from the switchbox is broken someplace.
