Okay, got your attention. I did say 11-inch! Just thought I'd share a couple videos of what could be the worlds smallest high performance Mercury outboard! It's a Nylint toy Mercury XR4 that I've done a few mild upgrades to.

I added a heavier duty version of the original electric motor, one that could take more than the original toy motor's 3V max. The one in it now is rated for 6V and I'm running 7.4V through it. I also shimmed the gears to mate up better as they would barely engage at the outset. The boat is an old Power Cat toy boat by Fleet Line. In a straight line, with no water in the boat, it planes off nicely. My fishing line retrieval system leaves much to be desired, as the boat takes on water quite easily, which bogs it down.
I plan on revisiting the rig a bit later on to upgrade the drivetrain with some better gears and a metal propshaft as the driveline is all plastic at the moment and showing some wear. I also found a larger motor that will still fit inside the housing. Radio control with a speed control and servo is in the works, too. Winter's almost over so it's time to put the toys away and get back to 1:1 scale boats...
