1979 470 engine compartment was partially submerged in fresh water... flushed block, head is dry, engine cranks ok but no voltage to coil. Fuse and circuit breaker seem ok, all guages working, where is the best place to trace dc going to coil? Any other ideas?<br />thanks, gary

Check under the distributor cap for moisture.

Check out those points and condenser, I myself would change them. I do realize you say you don't have voltage at the coil but then you ask how to check the coil, so I'm thinking your not getting spark to the plugs.. but if you check the positve side of the coil with a voltmeter with ignition on I think you should get a reading...one other thought did the voltage regulator get wet? I will look it up tonight in my Merc manual.

Thanks to all... undid all the electrical circuits, cleaned and dried everything, then jumped coil from battery and all is fine.

Dont leave it jumped. You will burn the points up. Sounds like you need a new resistor wire?
