Yester day I was out in my SeaRay 1986 18ft boat and was pulling a tube. The engine was running fine I did a couple high speed runs and then was pulling tubers for an hour or two. Then I was having problems with cruising at high speed. I would stop let it idle and open the hatch. I look around and didn't see anything wrong or smell anything. Then for a few minutes it would be okay and I could get it up to a little under 4,000 rpm. Then it just kept getting worse so I pulled it out of the water. Hole shots were fine until I got up to crusing speed. It has fresh gas and ran fine for the week before.

Any ideas would be helpful. I was thinking that it isn't getting enough fuel at high revs. But I am not a boat mechanic, would it have a fuel filter? It is carbureted btw.

Thanks, Bond-o, if there is water in there how would I clear it? do I need to replace it or just blow it out?

Ayuh,... I donno,... What's on an 86,..?? Mine's got a Cannister filter by the fuelpump...
I dump it into a large container,+ Look for water,...
Then throw it away,+ install a fresh 1...

Thanks I will definetly do that. I was also wondering if that isn't it do you have any other ideas as to what the problem could be?

So I checked and I don't have any fuel filter and it is a hard line system so I didn't disconnect it. I don't know the problem. I found no vacuum ports open or any wires off. I just really don't know what is wrong so any ideas would be great.

im no boat mechanic either, but you should have multiple fuel filters.

there should be a big canister (fuel/water seperator, looks like an oil filter) and another one on the fuel pump (gotta take the cover off and it looks like a cone shape)

Thanks for your help, but I guess it was just some crappy gas that I got because I put in some other brand new stuff and the boat ran perfectly! I was all sorts of stressed for nothing! Oh well live and learn.
