mercontrol and suzuki - backwards is forwards!

I have just acquired a secondhand boat - a 19ft Fairline. It has a 9.9 Suzuki and a Mercontrol throttle/gear unit. When I push the lever forward - it engages reverse. And vice versa. Very confusing - especially when docking!! I've taken the Mercontrol unit apart - can't see any way to change the arrangement of cables. Can it be done? Any diagrams/drawings to help a novice?

Some oem units are not reverseable, if you don't see an alternate place to attach your cable, you may not be able to. Go to the Teleflex Marine web page, look under controls, they have PFD instuction manuals for almost everything they ever made. Maybe one will be similar to yours. MartyD
