Mercontrol identification

I am trying to identify the make and model of my remote control for my 140 mercury , I can't find any S/N or Model numbers anywhere on the unit. I tried to find one or one similar online but not having much luck. Is there a way to identify what model it is?

Clearly the make is Mercury. The round plug on the wiring harness places it in the late 80s. Can I assume you have an inline 6 Merc 1400 motor? If so, that places your motor's year between 1978-1980, and the wiring is different.

Ok I should clarify what I'm trying to find out on the controller. Im attempting to find a diagram or something similar, to repair the internals, there was a bearing and a pin floating around the inside of the unit and the throttle button,on the side, doesnt seem to pop out like it should.Im hoping I can find the parts or just put the parts where they belong.I guess I could always replace the unit but I am unsure what will work as a replacement.

Thats exactly what I need!! Thank you very much!! Looks like I got a commander and I see im missing a spring and plug but theres part numbers I can use.Once again thanks carholme!!
