Hi, I have a 1966/67 Mercruiser 110 that needs all new transom bellows and gimbal bearing. I can't read (find) the serial number on the sterndrive. I've found listings that refer to the drive as a model "O". Yet the parts lists don't seem to offer replacement parts for this drive. What - if any parts - will fit to get it in the water again?
Thanks,
Ron

get yourself service manual #1. it'll have the facts in it for you. i believe you'll find your s/n on the mercruiser sticker on the sides of the drive on the upper. if no sticker is there. that's good too. as the s/n is stamped into the upper underneath the sticker..

look close and ya can see the number stamped into the drive where the paint is scratched off...

i don't know what the parts availability are for a model 0 drive. only that they seem to be less prevalent than the 1 drive..

The 0 drives were only used on the Renault motors, you should have a 110 which is GM. You have a 1A EZ drive.
Up in the Adults Only sticky at the top of this forum you can download the OEM Service manual for that engine and drive. Manual #1

Hi Ziggy,
Thanks for the post. The stickers were already partly gone when we got the boat in 1979. They cover up a large hole that provides access to a vent screw. They only remained for a few year later. Without them in place, corrosion has taken place. The numbers were so shallow they no longer show up. I know the parts are available as I went to the dealer next door with the same info. I'd gotten the same parts from them back around 1985 and cost was around $100. Now it's $240-$250 for the 3 bellows and gimbal bearing. Not the whole kit like shown for the later units - just those 4 parts. That's why I'm here.
Thanks,
Ron

Hi Don
Thanks. I didn't bother to read the Adults only post the first time as I assumed it was a risque cartoon or something. My dumb. :) I scraped the decal surfaces today and got down through the rough coats of paint and the remaining chromate primer and there are definitely no numbers stamped there. Not really enough corrosion to speak of unless the numbers were maybe only a few thousanths of an inch deep. Is there another known location for the serial number? I do have a 120/140 outer stern unit of unknown condition. It was a scrapyard find - there was a parted out freeze damaged 4 cyl engine there also. Don't know if they came from the same boat or were from multiple donors. This sterndrive is the entire transom mount outward - everything you would see outside of the boat. It is stamped in the decal 4225463. Would this be a direct interchange for the earlier unit I have?
Thanks,
Ron

Re: Mercruiser 110 drive parts needed

Hi,
By your reasponse do you mean that I could unbolt the through transom studs and pull the origional unit and install the 120/140 in it's place with out other parts? $$$$?
I had a sickening find on my dads boat today - a 1985 Wellcraft American bowrider with a OMC 120 knuckle drive. Only has about 125 hours on it. Been sitting dry for about 12 years. He finally got all the parts it needed after an employee didn't properly refill with oil after a spring service. I was going to put it's outdrive back together rather than dump a bunch of money in mine that I don't have in this economy. Found out raccoons ripped out the canvas storage cover's vent and got into it over the winter. No vinyl parts aft of the windsheild remain undamaged. All of the seat parts, gunwale trim, engine cowling - every single vinyl part was totally shreadded for the padding underneath. - Boy, I didn't want to call him....He said no insurance coverage either.. He won't fix it as he can't use it(78 years old) and I have no income to buy parts. They got into my boat too but "only" ripped one of the newer seats in one place. I can put new foam in and patch it. What keeps the buggers out?
