I just pulled the motor out of my boat for the purpose of rebuilding it, and at the machine shop we noticed that there was a wear mark where the camshaft gear seemed to be coming into contact with the block, yet there wasnt any wear on the camshaft gear itself. My question is, should there be some kind of shim in place when the cam is reinstalled, and if so how do I determine how much shim is necessary?
