I have a Merc 120hp I/O and it is quite early (Around 1976 vintage. The carb is a Rochester 2 barrel which has sat for a long while. I rebuilt the engine from the ground up but the peripherals are original. The engine ran reasonably well at home, but once we got some load on it in the water it started to play up. The problem is in the carb (the gas tank is new and so is the fuel)It either floods the engine or runs too rich or then runs too lean. I'm wondering if there is a replacement carb for the old 2 barrel as parts for it seem to be extinct. Does anyone have any ideas on a suitable replacement? Weber? Holley maybe? I'mnot necessarily looking for more power, just a more serviceable carb that i can get parts for.

A kit is available from NAPA to rebuild it. The part number is 2-5494A. If it sat up it needs to be rebuilt. It's a good carb, just rebuild it.

Buttanic
