mercruiser 120 hp I/O

I have a 120 horse merc in a 1974 larson boat I was told that it was a 153 ci chevy i was wantin to know if it would interchange with a newer 2.5 liter chevy motor

A 120 hp is a 151 cu inch or 2.5 litre. Same motor in a different language.

is there any difference between the older ones and the newer i am sure i can find a good one out of a car but it might be a 1980 or newer i did not know if it was the same as the older ones

Just some differences I have heard exsist between car and I/O engines.<br /><br /> Cam is a different grind (because of differences in operating speeds/torque).<br /><br /> Head gasket is different (not sure on this one but I have heard it is).<br /><br /> Not to mention all the acces. are different (alternator, starter, carb, exhaust manifold,thermastat, ect.) but you should have these.<br /><br /> It is not a real viable option (again from what I've heard) to convert a cage engine to a boat engine.
