I currently have a mercruiser 120 (exhaust and intake on the same side) that has a few issues. I am looking at the Iron Duke swap but I dont want to have to redo all of the stuff for throttle and what not.
So my question is Can I put my 120 head on the Duke Block.
Or I have also been told that I can put my head on a regular 2.5 GM block. I am just ensuring that this is true.

Re: Mercruiser 120 questions

Hi Socal,

I am a little confused after reading your post. the Mercruiser 120 is a 2.5 liter Chevy block (so is my 110 HP, just a different cam), and I have always hear the term 'Iron Duke' used to describe the 2.5 liter block. So it should all work ok, because they are all the same thing (bearng in mind changes from model year to model year, but I think that these are very consistent)

cheers
e

Re: Mercruiser 120 questions

Uuum, other will say for sure, but from what I have read on here, the 2.5 & 3.0 used in boats are NOT the Iron Duke.

If you've found Any motor out of a Car,.......

It's Not the same casting as the motor in your Boat...........

You can call Lots of motors by "Nicknames",.....
But,... Different Places,+ People use the Same Names for Very Different Motors...........

The Block used in Boats,...... Hasn't been used in a Car since the Very Early 60s..............

So,....... The Answer Is,...... Everything you've been told,...... Is Wrong.........
