Alright so i have a mercruiser 3.0 oldschool that i'm rebuilding. I stumbled upon something that i have no guess what it's for. The shift cable attaches to it and it has some kind of hydrlic connection. It looks like a switch. It's placed on the same bracket as the gear killswitch but almost 10inches to the side of that one. I Will put a picture of it aswell.

Next question is how to hook up my alternator since i have no idea what to connect where. I need all the input i can get. Previous owner gave me 2 of alot some working some not working. Some stuff for chevy van and some for ? tractor. I have rebuilt the engine and the alpha outdrive from what was in the boxes. I even took all the lifters apart.

Damn, need to upload pics via computer.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... The contraption mentioned in yer 1st paragraph is the shift switch, the reverse-lock, 'n trim indicator...

As for the Alternator,... We're gonna need pictures, as We have No idea what this is, other than older than dirt...

For the pictures,... There's threads explainin' it at the top of the Tech, Non-boatin' forum...

Ayuh,... The 1st picture is part of the shift interrupt switch,... The part with the fittings is the reverse-lock...
I don't see the rest of what I was thinkin' 'bout...

The shift cables hook to their spots, 'n the return hyd. line runs through the valving part...

the shift interrupt switch is that the one that cuts the engine quick while shifting? think that is to the right outside of this pic.

the reverse lock is that one giving the trimpump a signal when in reverse so that the trim cylinders holds the outdrive down?
puting pressure on the trim cylinders?

the alternator studs marking from bottom in pic; 1 bat 2 gro 3 r 4 f or something like that.

Sorry guys, that is not the shift interrupt switch, it's the trim system reverse lockout switch.... It stops the pump being run UP while in reverse. Later model pumps don't need it because that have internal valving to allow for UP in reverse, but the older ones didn't. If you hit trim UP with a bit of throttle on in reverse, the leg shoots all the way up....

That alternator is older than Methuselah, toss it and buy a brand new one... Any one of these will do the job, just a question of how much current you want :D -> http://www.dbelectrical.com/casearch.aspx?query=-69729&x=0&y=0
