Mercruiser 140 Distributor Question

Ok just had my motor rebuilt by a machine shop and looking to replace my distributor, my question is can i replace my distributor with a Hei Unit like this one on ebay, and if so what other parts will I have to replace also, and whats the difference with the Hei versus a regular one, I was once told the Hei had the coil built into it, but not sure. <br /><br />to me it looks like and EST IGNITION distributor which will need the cables and coil ect and some wireing changes<br /><br />i have a newer 3.0 with one and it is a good system but you need to sure you get everything and find out if it can be wired into the orginal harness<br /><br /> http://www.pertronix.com/ <br /><br />if you old one is good mech wise it may be easery to upgrade it with a pertronix kit <br /><br />tommays

Tommays <br />where did you get that illustration, I would like to look at the actual part names and parts , curious where you got it, and the reason im changing mine is the gear on mine is wearing out and it ate the gear on the cam shaft , put a new cam in and dont want it to eat the new one up<br /> thanks for your responce
