hi all
im looking forward to rebuild my 86 mercruiser 140 engine...what would be the best place the get parts from as cheap as possible and how much would it cost me ....Boat has been sitting for last 5 years ...it runs but external parts like thermostat housing ,water pump and manifold plate are very corroded and they leak .. i already got the water pump ,alternator and many more external parts but i think ill just rebuild the whole thing...just to make sure i dont have to take it all apart again...
I was wondering what cars had the same engine block...i belive i have matched the water pump from 65 chevy nova but im not sure about the block or the head ...any input on that is really appreciated ...and ofcourse some instructions on what internally i should change

Thanks

Dom

That engine was used in the Chevy II. NAPA should have all of the internal parts ( pistons, rings, bearings etc) It uses a lot of parts in common with the 283 V8 (valves, lifters, rocker arms, etc). Also some parts are common to the inline 6. You already found the water pump is. I believe the starter is too.
Oops, I may be wrong. I think that 140 is somewhat different from the earlier 140 which was based on the Chevy II engine. Try for a mid 70's Monza or Vega.

The 140 is an industrial engine, 181 cubes, that was never used in a car. The older 120hp stern drives used the Chevy II 153 cubic inch 4-cylinder block.
