im have seen some interesting posts on here, some great some not soo good.

im not trying to start any arguments i would like to just inform some people.

on the mercruiser or OMC 140hp engines (181 CID) you do have some things that you have to buy that are marine spacific. as far as the internal engine parts you do have some choices.

first as with all engines, there are few that will use bearings that are only for that engine, there are many different manufactures that use the same bearings. you will have to do the research and measuring to make sure. as for the 140, you can use 350 chevy bearings for the rods. the mains are standard 2.5 liter (like the one that came in the citation) or the one that was in the 66 chevy II, the 250 streat 6 is also the same just a extra set of bearings.

most of the gaskets are also the same!
THE HEAD GASKET SHOULD BE A MARINE GASKET!!! (due to the fresh water system)

the rings are also small block chevy.

if you take the time and research your projects you can save alot of money. it might take a little more time. have been a machinest for many years and have seen alot of people get ripped off because it had MARINE in the name.

thanks and good luck to anyone working on an old boat. (or even and old car)

one good example of bearings is 1958 392 Chry hemi used the same rod jernal size as the 383, they were just a little wider. WAY cheaper to get 383 rod bearings. so buy them and cut the width down. some engines will come up and say the parts are not availible this was an example of how to get around them.
