hi, just bought a winner 18 foot open dory fitted with a mercruise 140 engine, cant find serial number anywhere, also on the stern drive there is a label which states serial number, but it is blank.

So help with finding serial number so i can order the correct service manual would be appreciated, and while waiting if some one has the part number for the support bracket at the pulley end available as the existing one is corroded away,
and finally what size thread and length is the main pulley bolt into the crankshaft as the PO had removed and lost it.

regards

If you posted a picture maybe someone could help identify it.

I'm not sure if there is a bolt on the end of the crankshaft.

The harmonic balancer is a press or friction fit.

If there are threads on the end of the crank I believe it's for a balancer install tool.

What year is your boat? That may be good enough to find the manual.
The SN tag is just above the starter. But, if the engine was ever replaced, it may not have one.

Re: Mercruiser 140

sorry for the late reply, i think the boat is a early 70,s boat, can not find a makers plate with serial number on, however in the transome is a number "moulded" into it, as for the engine i have crawled all over it and still no sign of a serial number,

sterndrive is pre alpha.a quick way to tell is the cap on the top with the hole in.impellor is same as alpha one though.you maybe able to get another lower pulley off ebay etc.will need the key though.interference fit onto the shaft but if your a handyman make yourself a chunky removal tool incase it has to be removed again.

looks like the same setup as my 74, there is a manual on this site under adults only, I actually just used it this friday to replace my impeller...

DINGDONGS,

you say its a pre Alpha leg, does it have a name like the Alpha or Bravo drives ?
As for the engine i found the 140 manual on here in the AOS, the bottom pulley is with it and yes i found that it is indeed a interferance fit, just need to locate the front engine mounting number now and get one.

Anyone have any ideas if there is a Winner boat ID site, or can identify the boat from the photo as i would love to know the exact type of Winner i have ?

thank you all for your help todate with info.
