Hello all.....I need to replace my spark plug wires on my boat and i'm wondering if anyone has ever used wires from a auto part store? I was gonna order some online here, but i'm wanting to get the boat out tomorrow. If so what kind of wires would u even ask for that work? Thanks much!

Re: Mercruiser 165 4 cylinder

Napa sells marine wires.

Here are the differences I know of: Marine wires are longer and use brass or ss tips instead of aluminum for corrosion. Marine plug wires give longer assurance than cheaper auto wires against eventual arcing, potentially much more dangerous on a boat.

If you use auto plug wires just make sure they have good silicone jackets & boots, quality RFI suppression & preferably stainless or brass terminals.

Geez I am sick of this question! Bite the freekin bullet and spend the bucks for OEM Mercruiser plug wires. They fit perfectly and will wind up costing about $5 a year over the long run. Why try to cheap out and put crap on your boat when your and your loved ones lives could depend on it? As you can see I am kind of crabby this morning:mad:
