I pulled the bellhousing to replace motor mounts. I took the old ones out using threaded rod and sockets with only minor difficulty. However, trying to press the new ones back in, I can't get them to start straight. It keeps going crooked as soon as I put any torque on them. Is there a trick to installing them?

Thanks in advance

put them in the freezer first. that little bit of shrinkage may help

In addition to Scott’s suggestion, before freezing, I always put the mount on a 1/2” rod and let it spin against a grinder to put a small taper just about 1/8” from the end and coat the bore with out board motor oil which always worked for me to get it started and stay square.

Tapping very carefully with the correct size socket to start it straight first, then the threaded rod.
