Mercruiser 170hp 4 cylinder cap replacement

Does it mater how a cap goes back on a mercruiser 170hp 4 cylinder. I was at worked and my friend pulled my cap off for me to get a new one and unpluged the wires but doesnt rember what way it was sitingon there

IF the distributor is installed as it was when new, it should be like this.

It does. If you are unsure bump the engine around to TDC #1, compression, line up the timing mark on the rotor (on the crankshaft) with the timing (TDC) mark on the cover. The rotor will be pointing to the #1 plug wire. The cap should be marked as to which is the #1 wire. Follow Don's diagran.

Does it matter how the points or the condenser sit in there. I noticed the point screw was loose. So i just wanted to make sure before i bolted it all up.
