Can someone tell me if this is a good motor? I'm in the market for another boat. I've come across a 1988 Wellcraft, American 192 that I'm interested in.

I've done a search and have found the motor isn't made anymore and possible overheating issues. ?

TY, Dave

Re: Mercruiser, 170hp.

Howdy,

Well, this question might be better answered in the Non repair I/O forum.........

You're talking about an engine that is indeed no longer made. For MANY years now.

it also had it's problems. MANY problems. Not totally impossible to deal with though if you're good at it and can scrounge parts etc.

Replacing the Mercruiser 470 (3.7L) Marine Enginse | Performance Product Technologies

Most of us wouldn't suggest it to a first boat buyer who would need to pay someone else to work on it.....

I would suggest a boat with an engine type that is still well supported like the 3.0L, 4.3L and 5.0L (GM) & 5.7 L engines.....

Thx Rick! Need to navigate the forum a little better, appreciate the help there too. I'll stay away from this motor.
