Checked the reservoir on my 1987 Mercruiser 175 / v6 and the power steering fluid is really low. The only thing my local store had was the pennzoil power tilt and trim fluid. It says on the front "Ideal for: power steering systems" - but I was wanting to make sure this is ok to use? I know there is a specific mercruiser brand power steering fluid also? Should I find and use that instead? Or is it ok to use the Pennzoil fluid?

No oil is specific to any manufacturer, they dont make it. Dextron III is the same. Some trim pumps use a 5W or a 10W but they work with ATF oils too.

So does that mean it is ok to use the fluid I purchased in my mercruiser as power steering fluid?
