Alright, here goes...
Put the boat in the water recently, and she started up great. When I put it into gear, the engine died. The engine absolutely refuses to restart. It cranks and cranks, but it doesn't even try to fire up.
I suspected a fuel delivery problem, so I rebuilt the carb. Same problem - still won't start. Pumping the accelerator causes fuel to spray in the throat of the carb, so I know its getting fuel. I pulled a plug, and I get a good spark.
So here's my question... while looking through the OEM manual, it says that the distributor should be spring loaded, i.e., if you twist the rotor, it should snap back into position. My rotor has no snap what-so-ever. I can rotate it back and forth and it stays as I leave it, it doesn't return to a preset position. Could this be the problem? It's too expensive to replace on a hunch, but I can't think of anything else.
One other thing... I have tried using starter fluid, and can maybe get to slightly pop, but it makes no attempt to start, even with starter fluid.
Thanks for any light you can shed on this situation. The season is almost over here in New England, and I'd love to get a few more weekends in before the snow flies!
