i have a 1989 Cruisers Inc. Holiday 2570 with a 7.4L mercruiser engine. this boat was properly winterized and stored, but has not been run since 2007. when getting everything ready to go as the boat is for sale, it cranks over just fine, but when pumping the throttle for fuel, there is nothing at all going into the carb, nor can we even smell a hint of fuel. any ideas as to where to start or what the possible problems could be? thanks

After setting for 5 years, I would have to bet the carb needs rebuilt at minimum. flush the lines and fuel pump, new filters, and some new gas.

Thanks Don. Is there any other filters located anywhere besides the fuel/water seperator? any other ideas or guidance would be appreciated. thanks again for the info

Check the pick up tube leading into the tank. Most have a screen on the end that can become clogged.

i have the smaller pickup tube that runs from the tank area ( completely hidden under cabin floor ) to the inlet of the water/fuel seperator, would this be where i check for that screen? thanks

Ayuh,.... At the top of the tank, The fittin' where the hose starts,...
That's the anti-siphon check valve,... it'll plug with ole rotten 5 year old gas....
The elbow it's screwed into, is the diptube fittin',...
When removed from the tank, it sometimes has a little piece of screen in the end, other times, Not...

I'd try to start it on a remote fuel can to sell it...
A gascan, 'n a piece of 3/8" fuel line, hooked up to the fuel filter will get it Runnin',...

IF the fuel pump, 'n carb ain't fulla rotten gas...

Let the buyer flush, 'n clean that rotten gas outa it...

i'd try holding the throttle plate open shooting a little gas down the carb and firing it that way a few times and see if you can get the fuel to flow that way. you'd be surprised how many times this will get things going again...
