Mercruiser 2.5 I/O 120hp 4cyl. Impeller

Help!! When coming back off the water my heat guage got very hot. Just as I shut it down I heard noise from the out drive.

I think it's the impeller and sounded like it was breaking up.

The impeller is in the upper unit, right! Is it a tough job to replace it.

Really need help in getting the right repair manual.

It's a 1987 2.5 and the engine is a tuff little gal and still runs well. Just never had worked on any out drives before but I'm fair with a set of tools.

Please help or one of you guys come to Virginia and give me a hand. lol

and download manual #6 for your drive and #10 for your motor. The impeller is in the LOWER unit of your outdrive and is very simple to change. Follow the steps in manual #6.

Ayuh,.... Just Guessing,.. Is this an Alpha,..??

The Impeller is in the Lower unit...
It also doesn't make any Noise when it breaks up....

Sounds like you got much Bigger Problem...

Drain the oil,+ look for contaminates...

Bond-o, I am not sure if it's an Alpha, how do I find out or where do I check.

You can tell that I don't know much by me thinking the impeller was in the upper unit. lol

Bond-o, after talking to my son he said the noise seem to come from behind the motor in the upper unit area and there was a small amount of smoke also.

Got any thoughts on this?

Thanks for the information on the down loads. #10 download went fine but #6would not open. When I clicked on any section to open and save it, I got a message that it could not be found.

Any thoughts or another way that I might open #6 download?

Open the #6 download, scroll to the OUTLINE page. You have to open each section individually.

Hi Don, when I try to open any item on the outline page I get a message that says, "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found."

Tried typing in different 'www' address with no success.

#10 download worked just fine and I am sooo glad to have it.
