Hello. I am new to this board, but have been visitng for a while to see what go's on here. All I can say is this is great.
I have a 82 glasscraft with a 228 Mercruiser (305) chevy. It has points ignition and I want to Put a HEI system on it and was wondering if a dis out of a car engine will work. The one in the boat right now will wiggle or move if you push it to one side or the other. The timeing is iratic when you use the timing light. What are your thoughts, and thanks for the help.

Re: Mercruiser 228 problem

An Automotive Dist. is Not what you want......
The Merc. ThunderBolt IV is about the Best Bullet-Proof system out there....
If you search ebay for awhile, you'll be able to find a good 1, reasonably priced....
I'm putting together a 383 small block Chevy for my new boat.... Bored, Blueprinted, Balanced, Tricked,+ Tweeked.... It'll be Fired by a Merc. T-bolt IV.....
Rock Solid Spark up to 6000rpms or so.....

Hwp,

Automotive distributors, alternators, starters are not sealed OR APPROVED for marine use.

Because they are not sealed, they are a potential BOMB in your engine compartment.

You may be able to have your old dist. rebushed.
