Mercruiser 260 Alpha one - Gimbal housing cooling hose length

I purchased a new cooling hose that goes in the gimbal housing to bellhousing.
This is an open system if that matters. I read somewhere that this hose needs to
be trimmed back to 13inches prior to installation. If it isn't trimmed it will kink.
In another thread someone said that they did infact cut it back to this length
and the hose pulled off when the outdrive was trimmed up. I believe the hose I have
is a little over 14inches.

What is the correct length for this hose ? Hoping to prevent the usual
scenario " keep cutting it and it is still too short".

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it should be 13-7/8" for an Alpha Gen 2.

This is a first generation unit. Sorry should have put that in the original post.
