mercruiser 260 rod knocking

I have a 1982 welcraft with a mercruiser 260 it is now bad after the weekend. I want to put a new motor in it I am looking for tips. My first idea is a new style 4.8 or 5.3 gm motor, I know that I need to get the right cam but my main worry is the exhaust logs, will they bolt up if not what our my options with that.

If the Checkbook can stand it...

Btw,... With an 82, Now,... You need to use an 86 or Earlier base motor...
Otherwise, there'll be fitment issues at the crankshaft/ flywheel/ coupler....
