mercruiser 260hp ?

living in Kuwait engines and parts are a bit of a problem. I have just had fitted what i was assured was a 2nd hand refurbished 5.4 ltr v8 260hp engine and alpha drive to my 24ft formula sports fisher however<br />the engine no is F019826 and i am trying to confirm that what i have is what it should be .as i have a problem that nothing seems to fix in that the engine maxes out at 3300 rpm and then starts to fade throtleing back and the engine picks up again ,ive changed prop size, and checked out the fuel delivery and the carb im thinking that maybe the engine isnt what its supposed to be, any ideas would be very greatfull

From what I can tell, that serial number is for a big block (454 ci 7.4L). Have you checked the timing and the timing advance ?

I had a similar symptom when I was going through carb issues. When you are hitting the secondary circuit in your fuel delivery(carb) it is flooding out and bogging the engine, when I backed off the throtle the secondary circuit would quit feeding gas and it would pick up again.<br /><br />After you throttle up and it starts loosing RPM, shut down and check the carb with the aircover off. Is it really wet? How bout the plugs? If this is the case, you have a problem with your secondary circuit running too rich most likely.

Ayuh,...........<br />And, I'm Thinking You Missed Something.......<br /><br />Go back,+ Verify Fuel Flow,+ Fuel Pressure......<br /><br />Maybe the Fuel Pump is Dropping Off......<br /><br />Good Luck......
