I am a completely newbie to the world of watercraft.. I’m looking at purchasing a 2005 four winns horizon 170 with mercruiser 3.0 4cyl and alpha one gen 2 outdrive
The history I’ve been told is that the riser or manifold gained a hole, let water in and induced bottom end knock. There is a replacement 2nd hand engine with the boat to make a good motor of the 2.
Considering this is an older boat and this running gear, what would you consider necessary to ensure this boat is safe and reliable moving forward?
At this stage I am thinking:
Rebuild motor
Riser/manifold
Shifter cable
Change uni joints
New bellows/bellhousing gasket
Do I need to look at doing trim sensors/gimbal bearing or anything deeper considering it’s been sitting 2 years?
Am I on the right track here? I’m open to all honest criticism whether harsh or not
