mercruiser 3.0 block swap compatible years?

I have a 1997 Bayliner 1950 with a cracked block 3.0LX. I have a good 1988 short (bare) block and am wondering if I can swap all internals except the cam from the 97' into the 88' block?

Ayuh,.... I believe the crankshaft changed in 1990, so no, it won't swap,...

Could use the 88' internals and then dress it with 97' parts?

Ayuh,.... The crank shaft is different, it won't swap between the blocks, 'n the flywheel is different,....
