Any GM motor conrod will work. You need to keep the same mass weight, length, wrist pin diameter, main bearing journal size.
Might try matching the part numbers from both motors.

I have doing some research on 3 liters. This may help

"The 153,181,194,230 and 250 and Vega 4 share the same rods, 1.030” wide at the big end."

I must ask....
What happened to the old connecting rod? What kind of shape is the block and crank in after assumed issue with old connecting rod?

Ayuh,... Agreed,...

Most repairs that only need 1 connectin' rod, are usually short cuts that don't have Happy endings...

Re: mercruiser 3.0 connecting rod

Never been a fan of replacing a single component of a rotating assy. Have seen a couple work out OK if engine is babied, but in a boat, the engine is under some sort of strain all it's life. Ballance is the boogie man here and usually when a single component fails, it usually the weakest link failing, indicating there are other factors involving the entire rotating assy. If the replacement component isn't ballanced the same as the rest of the assy, the engine very possibly could grenade itself in short order while under strain, which I have seen more often than not.

The bearing spun in the rod I had the crank turned the block is ok. I just need the one rod I got the one out of the 89 motor yesterday it looks differant and the bearing is wider. Looks like a new rod is about 200 dollars. thanks Bob

How trashed is the rod and have you asked the machine shop about resizing the rod yet? IE: take a bit off the cap>rod mating surface and re-machine the big end. Or, have the machine shop source a single used rod for you from one of their suppliers,,, that would certainly be cheaper than $200.

Personally, I think it's risky to throw another rod into the block that could be off balance from the rest of the rods. It would be best to have the rotating assembly balanced, though it doesn't sound like you are going to have the engine torn down far enough for balancing.

......following fishrdan's lead, if you are not prepared to do a complete, matched rod replacement, enlist a real machine shop to re- size the defective rod and match-balance the remainders.
For years I utilized the aforementioned in rebuilding racing engines (production stock) and never lost an engine due to rod failure.

if your going to fix it right, you may want to find out why the bearing spun in the first place. look to your oil system. rod bearings usually do not die, they are murdered.

It would be better to use a resized rod and have the rotating assembly balanced, opposed to using a new rod and not balancing. It could be the same price for both options.
