I have 98 mercruiser 3.0 took it out last weekend ran fine, pulled up to a beach and shut it off couple hours later went to start it and wouldn’t start looked at engine and the belt was broke. Had to happen right before I got to the beach as I was watching gauges, but anyways put new belt on it and wouldn’t start. I got home found out I had no spark, I’ve replaced the cap and rotor, ignition coil and now the ignition module and still no fire, removed gray tach wire and unplugged the shift switch and still nothing, I’m getting 12v at the coil in run and start position. Only other thing I can think of is the pick up coil inside the distributor, has anyone have any experience on this or changing it??

did you go thru the troubleshooting guide in the manual prior to throwing parts at the motor?

The distributor cap and rotor had a good bit of corrosion so they needed to be replaced anyways and the ignition module it said I needed a special tool to test so I just bought one and the ignition coil I bought to see if that was it and if not I could use it for a spare. I just bought the boat so not sure when any of it was last changed. But I did follow the procedures for testing the pick up coil and ohm is supposed to be infinity on each wire (one lead to wire other to distributor housing) and my meter said 0.159 or something which is not infinity so I believe that is my problem but no idea how to change that and couldn’t find anything in the manual
