I am working blind trying to remove the filter on the fuel pump and cannot get the safet wire off the bottom. What size is the screw on the safet wire?
If you post the engine serial number, we can help with that, but as Merc have been using the 3 litre engine since the mid 60's it's a crapshoot for the part number without the serial number (or at least a year)...
You should be able to find the serial number among these: http://www.mercruiserparts.com/4-cylinder-engines when you get the new gasket, make sure it is the same thickness as the old one. You may have a " stone" filter that can be washed out or replaced with a disposable one.
