Mercruiser 3.0 litre stripped head bolt

I have a stripped head bolt second from the back on distributor side on 94 mercruiser 3.0 litre.Can anyone tell me what is the best way to fix this.Drill and retap larger bolt or helicoil?Could you tell me the size of the current bolt and what size of bolt/ helicoil i need?Thanks

I'd go with the helicoil. Not sure of the size. Take the old bolt to an auto store and they should be able to get you setup.

Ayuh,.... Me too,.... but it's really the Only option....

The down-side is, ya gotta pull the head again, 'n spring for another head gasket....
The up-side is,... The grit, 'n tailings of the drillin', 'n tappin', falls into the water jacket, 'n not the oil galleys...

There is a proper repair for such a problem called(not sure if it spelled correctly) a time sert.
It is much stronger than a helicoil and has a shouldered edge for counter sunk applications like a cylinder deck surface.
